The Philippines is host to thousands of tourists the whole year round, most of them on a package tour while some are on diving holidays. This month, Cebu City had the most number of tourists because of the Sinulog festival. There were buses and buses full of tourists and some were brave enough to jostle with the crowd during the Sinulog parade. Because most of the fun and activities were in the heart of the city, only a few stayed on the beach for their diving activities.
Even after the Sinulog weekend, many foreign tourists still remained in Cebu, taking pictures of the Basilica del Sto. Nio, the church of the Holy Child Jesus; and the Magellan’s Cross. Many of these tourists brought with them their families, even little children. With all the masses said during the nine days novena, and the church overflowing with people day in and day out, the police were placed on alert to ward off any untoward incident.
